About the Designer

My name is Tracy and I come from a long line of jewelers including my uncle, mother and grandmother. In fact, some of my most precious memories with my grandma were on Jeweler’s Row — the strip of Chicago where all jewelers work. As a little girl, I loved going downtown to visit with my grandma. I was fascinated as I trailed behind her, into gilded elevators through private doorways with secret passwords and buzzers. It was its own little secret society. At 8 years old, I was mesmerized. I remember one trip in particular, my grandma was sizing a necklace and the goldsmith asked her what she wanted to do with the tiny bit of leftover gold. My grandma pointed down to me and told him to make something special for her granddaughter. He asked me to design it. On a piece of scrap paper I drew an odd-looking, misshapen ring. It was the equivalent of a stick figure drawing. But he made it for me. And I wore it. I still wear it. Although it has switched fingers over the years, I got more compliments on that ring than any other accessory. My friends especially adored the piece. So much so, that 20 years later I decided to make them. I gave them to my closest girlfriends as a symbol of our friendship. In return, they gave them to their mothers, sisters, grandmothers and other friends.

And thus started the circle…of friendship rings.
